About

Why This Site Exists

Most gifts do not miss because the person giving them did not care. They miss because the basket arrived half empty, the printed tag came out blurry, or the thing itself was fine and nobody could tell it had been chosen rather than grabbed on the way over.

Gifts by Leaf is about the part nobody writes up: what actually goes inside, how long it takes to put together, what to write on the tag, and which recipient a gift is wrong for.

Who Writes This

I am Rosie Lambert. I have kept a list of every gift I made by hand since 2019 — 340 of them now — along with one line about what the person did with it afterwards. That list is the useful part. It is how I know that a jar needs four or five things in it and a basket needs six to eight, that the hand-written tag gets kept more often than the gift does, and that replacing something a person uses up beats surprising them almost every time.

Everything here gets assembled and handed over before it is written up. That is why these articles talk about item counts, assembly time and drying time as much as they talk about the idea.

How Ideas Are Chosen

A gift makes it into an article only if it clears the same checks:

  • It is listed out. Every item that goes in, counted — so it does not arrive looking thin.
  • The time is honest. Real assembly time, including the part where glue, wax or icing has to set.
  • It can be done tonight, or it says it cannot. Anything that needs curing or baking is labelled as a lead-time gift.
  • There is a line to write. One tag or card line written for that gift, not recycled across the site.
  • The wrong recipient is named. Who this gift misses, said before you make it rather than after.

What You Will Find Here

Gifts sorted by who they are for — partner, parents, siblings, grandparents, best friend, teacher, coworkers, kids and babies — and by the date: Christmas, birthdays by age, anniversaries, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, weddings, showers, graduations, retirements. Alongside them the practical end: jar gifts and baskets, boxes and hampers, wrapping and packaging, printable tags and cards, money gifts presented so they do not read as an afterthought, and handmade gifts by craft.

Affiliate Links, Plainly

Some links here are affiliate links: if you buy through one, this site earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. That is what pays for it. It does not decide what gets recommended, and most of what is on here can be made with scissors, a home printer and what is already in the cupboard.
